Raymond William Stacy Burr was born on May 21, 1917, and died on September 12, 1993. He was a famous Canadian actor. He was born in New Westminster, British Columbia. The name of his father was William Johnson Burr who was a hardware salesman.

While his mother named Minerva Annette was a famous pianist and music teacher. At the age of 6 years, his parents got separated. Then he and his siblings namely Geraldine and James moved to Vallejo, California.


It is known that Burr attended San Rafael Military Academy in San Rafael, California. Then he did his graduation from Berkeley High School. He was also sent to New Mexico to work as a ranch hand. In his teens, he also joined the Civillian Conservation Corps.

He also attended Long Beach Junior College and San Jose Junior College. Meanwhile, he also worked as a radio actor and singer in the night.

At the age of 12 years, he was able to appear in national radio dramas broadcasting in nearby San Francisco. He had a famous role in Jack Webb’s first radio show, Pat Novak for Hire (1949), and in Dragnet (1949-50) he had the role of Joe Friday’s boss, Ed Backstrand, chief of detectives.

Some famous Los-Angeles-based series include Suspense, Screen Directors Playhouse, Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar, Family Theater, Hallmark Playhouse, and Hallmark Hall of Fame. He had his role in five episodes of the famous dramatic radio anthology series titled CBS Radio Workshop.

In the 1950s, he provided himself to be a prolific television actor. In 1951, he did his television debut. He had appeared in episodes of Stars Over Hollywood, The Bigelow Theatre, Family Theatre, and the debut episode of Dragnet.

He also appeared in programs such as Gruen Playhouse, Four Star Playhouse, Ford Theatre, Lux Video Theatre, and Mr. and Mrs. North. All these performances made him popular.
